What’s it really like to start over in Portugal after decades in the U.S.?
On this episode of Your Expat Life LIVE, host Sonaya Williams sits down with Nancy Whiteman, an expat, retired sales executive, and Substack writer, who moved to Portugal in 2020 with her wife to pursue a slower, more fulfilling life.
We’ll explore what it means to navigate a new healthcare system, find joy in a new culture, and build a life rooted in simplicity, safety, and connection.
Whether you're dreaming of moving or already making plans, this live conversation will give you a real glimpse of what’s possible beyond borders.
Meet Nancy Whiteman
Nancy Whiteman is a 71-year-old retired sales executive who spent her career in computer systems for hospitals before retiring in 2014. In 2020, she and her wife, Denise Boutin, left Philadelphia and relocated to Portugal, where they’ve built a life in Lisbon and Vila Real de Santo António. A self-initiated move driven by politics in the U.S. and a long-standing desire to travel, Nancy is now focused on fully embracing her expat journey, continuing to learn the Portuguese language, and documenting her experiences through her Substack, Expat in Portugal.
